On this day of Holy Friday, a day of mourning and strict fasting, the service of the Royal Hours is celebrated. At each Hour, in addition to special Psalm readings, prophecies are read from the Old Testament that foretell the coming, teaching, suffering, and death of Our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Each Royal Hour has an Epistle and Gospel reading, as well. The text for the Typika is also included.
