The Royal Hours of Holy Friday
On this day of Holy Friday, a day of mourning and strict fasting, the service of the Royal Hours is celebrated. At each Hour, in addition to special Psalm readings, prophecies are read from the Old Testament that foretell the coming, teaching, suffering, and death of Our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Each Royal Hour has an Epistle and Gospel reading, as well. The text for the Typika is also included. The complete service is contained in this handy-sized, coil bound booklet. It is especially useful for the choir, the reader, the clergy, and for the laity, particularly where English is not chanted in the service. It is compiled from the following standard, oft-used texts: The King James Bible A Lenten Lectionary The Psalter The Lenten Triodion The Horologian Noting that five books must be gathered and juggled about in a cohesive manner to do this service, the advantage of using this booklet stands clear! |
